Opatija, Sights of Rijeka & Trsat View Point *

Depart the pier for the scenic, 30-minute drive to Trsat , the oldest part of Rijeka Town. Begin your guided walking tour. Along the way, visit the Gradina Fortress and Trsat Castle , which dates from prehistoric times when it was just a watchtower. Nearby is the Franciscan Monastery and Shrine of Our Lady of Trsat, one of the oldest in Croatia. For 7 centuries, this shrine has been frequented by numerous pilgrims from all around the world. The shrine and Franciscan Monastery are also connected with Rijeka's city center by a total of 561 steps made in the 16th century. Next, re-board your coach and return to Rijeka's city center for a guided walking tour. Your first stop is at the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral , one of the most important meeting places of culture in Rijeka City for the last 4 decades. The building itself is a monument, as it formerly served as the Governor's Palace. After the museum visit, your guided stroll will continue downhill to the main Korzo Promenade. Walk across the promenade and view the Cathedral, City Tower, Old Town with its narrow streets, marketplace, and various other sites in the city center. Following your guided walking tour, some free time is made available to explore your surrounds at your leisure. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and drive back to the pier. Opatija, Concierge Collection: On the Trail of Truffles *

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 1.5-hour drive to the Village of Vrh , which overlooks Lake Butoniga. Upon arrival, proceed for a visit to the home of the Karlic family, who originated the tradition of truffle-hunting in Istria. Your visit will begin with a tasting of wonderful truffle products, such as cheese with truffles and perhaps truffle biscuits. Next, leave the Karlic's home and head downhill, led by specially trained dogs, to the famous Motovun Forest to experience the adventure of hunting for black and precious white truffles. After an approximately 75-minute search for these treasured delicacies of the woodlands, return to the Karlic's home to learn how to prepare a delicacy with truffles. You will have a tasting of local wine, cheese and truffles, flavored honey, paté, and other truffle specialities served by your friendly hosts. Departing Opatija,you will enjoy the 1-hour scenic ride over Ucka Mountain to Istria Peninsula and the town of Buzet . Known as the City of Truffles, Buzet is the crown of Istria. It is situated on a hill above the eternal green Mirna River, which overlooks hundreds of small stone town villages that for centuries have been connected to old Buzet. This is the magic territory of Istrian truffles , the buried treasures and culinary king of white and black pearls. The Buzet area is also the place for great olive oil, exquisite wines and distinctive Istrian grappa which, served with traditional Istrian culinary recipes, fully evokes the spirit of this ancient region. Upon arrival in Buzet you will take an uphill guided walk and exploration and have some free time before proceeding to Aura Tasting House. Opatija, Vrelo Cave & Lakeside Fuzine *

Depart the pier for the scenic, 1-hour drive to the green oasis of Gorski Kotar . This pristine area represents the harmonious co-existence of man and nature. Gorski Kotar represents a delightful blend of pleasant forest shades and enchanting serenity. Upon arrival at Gorski Kotar, ascend the mountains en route to the Vrelo Cave. Take a guided walking tour inside the Vrelo Cave. Estimated to be more than 3 million years old, the approximately 1,000-foot-long (305-meters) Vrelo Cave offers visitors a sense of the Earth's primordial past. Dramatic artificial lighting has been thoughtfully installed to reveal the cavern's intricacies, and cast moody shadows on the ceilings and walls. A stream runs through the cave, whilst magnificent formations of stalactites and stalagmites add to the cave's eerie allure. Leaving the caves, re-board your coach and head to nearby Fuzine Town. This picturesque town is located on Bajer Lake at an altitude of 2,395 feet (about 730 metres) above sea level, approximately 22 miles (about 35 kilometers) from Opatija and near the Adriatic coast. Fuzine has rapidly developed due to wood exploitation, mining and trade. Today, it is a renowned tourist resort due to the beauty of the town, as well as the surrounding man-made lakes of Bajer and Lepovica. Board a boat for a panoramic ride along the lake . Afterward, take a guided walking tour of the village and stop by a local tavern for a tasting of typical Gorski Kotar delicacies. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and drive back to the pier. Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking at times over uneven, gravel, slippery, and cobblestone surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and embark/disembark the boat, and 15 steps at the sites visited. Opatija, Medieval Istria, Roc Village & Hum Town *

Depart the pier for the scenic, 1-hour drive over Ucka Mountain en route to the Istra Peninsula, and a visit to Roc Village. An important cultural monument, Roc features well-preserved medieval town walls with two entrances, a Roman lapidarium, Venetian bombarda cannon, and functional watchtower. Churches abound here, and include the 11th century Romanesque Church of St. Anthony , small St. Roch Church with several notable, 14th century frescoes representing St. Paul and the Apostles, as well as the St. Bartholomew Parish Church, which dates from the 14th century and features a prominent, 85-foot-high (26-meters) steeple erected in 1676. Numerous other smaller artifacts are preserved in the ancient buildings. Following a short walking tour of Roc Village, view a fresco presentation at a local artist's workshop, then re-board your coach and head to the town of Hum . En route, pass by the Glagolitic Alley, a scenic route of 10 monuments from the history of the Glagolitic alphabet. Located in the central part of Istria on a 1,145-foot-high (349 meters) hill overlooking the Mirna Valley, Hum Town has retained all the features of medieval urban architecture and organization. With a population of just 21 people, Hum is often called the smallest town in the world. On its western side, Hum is enclosed by town walls; on the remaining sides, houses are built into the defensive walls. Take a guided walking tour. See the bell and watch tower, built in 1552 as part of the town's defenses. The present Church of St. Jerome with its classical facade was built in 1802 on the side of an earlier church. The 'Glagolitic Wall Writings' are preserved in the church. Written in the formative Glagolitic period (the 2nd half of the 12th century), they are one of the oldest examples of Croatian Glagolitic literary culture in the Middle Ages. Following your tour, proceed for a visit to a traditional local tavern for a tasting of Istrian specialities served with wine. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and drive back to the pier via the Adriatic coastline. One of the oldest Croatian cathedrals , which consists of two different churches, one on a top of another, will be one of the highlights of the town walk. Piran, Skocjan Cave - UNESCO

Enjoy your day exploring the UNESCO site of Skocjan Caves , rich in importance for the region and powerful in their beauty. You will take a 45-minute drive to the caves where there will be time to use the restroom before entering the caves. The walk in the caves will take 2 hours, during which you will admire the beautiful Reka River and limestone formations. The Skocjan Caves are a unique natural phenomenon, the creation of the Reka River. The Reka River springs from below the Snežnik plateau and flows some 34 miles on the surface. After reaching the Karst, the limestone surface, the river not only deepens its riverbed through erosion, but also by means of corrosion - it dissolves the limestone. After the visit you will be take a short drive to an organic tourist farm and be treated to traditional homemade local and seasonal produce, dry cuts, organic juice and dessert. Piran, Slovenian Coast & Farmers Market

This tour is all about traditional ways of life, and giving something back to the community. Not only will you be mixing with the locals but you'll be helping them maintain their way of life. You will board your motor coach for the 15-minute drive to the lovely seafront town of Izola - an old fishing town on the Adriatic Coast. Your guide will take you on a 60-minute tour of the town before continuing on to head inland on a panoramic 30-minute drive to a small Istrian village. Your guide will take you on a walking tour and at the weekly market the farmers will be on hand to show you their traditional recipes and home-made products. At the market, you'll be given a booklet with 5 vouchers and you will have 45 minutes to exchange these vouchers with the vendors to taste their goods. Everything from fruit juice to wine, cakes to cookies are there for you to try. There's even some locally made ceramics, perfect to buy as a souvenir. The vouchers you use in exchange for tastings are like a payment and go towards maintaining the village life. Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Wheelchairs can only be accommodated if arrangements are made in advance. There are 20 steps at the Farmer's Market.

Piran, Lake Bled with Island

Lake Bled has attracted numerous visitors for centuries, with its immense natural beauty, hot springs and serene climate. Beautiful hotels, walking paths, tennis and golf courses, a casino, rowing regattas and nearby natural and cultural sites are only a few of the reasons that this has become a popular place for both tourists and locals. You will depart the pier for a scenic 2-hour drive towards Bled, where upon arrival you will board a boat for a cruise of the Lake and a visit to its famous island which is situated in the middle. Landing at the island, one of the sites you will visit is the "Wish Bell," certainly the most significant point of interest for visitors since the Middle Ages. The Bell hangs from the tower on top of the chapel roof. According to popular legend, a young widow who lived at Bled Castle mourned her husband who had been killed by brigands and gathered all her gold and silver and had a bell cast for the chapel on Bled Island. When the bell was being transported to the island, a terrible storm caused the boat to overturn, drowning the sailors and sinking the bell to the bottom of the lake. The young widow, now even more devastated, entered a convent. After her death, the Pope donated another bell for the Bled Church. Legend has it that those who ring the bell to honor her and make a wish will see their wish come true. From here you will continue to the lunch venue, where you will enjoy your meal with a nice view over the lake before having some free time to explore Lake Bled on your own. Please note: This tour is not wheelchair accessible. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a jacket.
