Rovinj, Seaside Resort of Porec & Wine Tasting

Board your coach for the 45-minute drive to one of the best known resort towns in Croatia - Porec. By international standards, Porec is a cultural and historical jewel. Porec features two main intersecting streets, Cardo and Decumanus, which even today remain the backbone of the Old Town. Visit the Episcopal complex of the Euphrasian Basilica built in the 6th century and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marafor, the oldest part of the town, still boasts the remains of two Roman temples. See the House of Two Saints, the Istrian Parliament Building, and the Leoni and Zuccato Palaces. You will have some free time to explore this charming little town on your own. Rovinj, Hum; The Smallest Town in the World

Depart the pier for a scenic drive to Roc Village, a cultural monument with well-preserved medieval town walls, a Roman lapidarium, a Venetian bombarda cannon, and a functional watchtower. Historic churches include the 11th-century Romanesque Church of St. Anthony, the small St. Roch Church with 14th-century frescoes, and the St. Bartholomew Parish Church, featuring an 85-foot-high (26-metre-high) steeple from 1676. After a short walking tour, visit a local artist's workshop for a fresco presentation before continuing to Hum. En route, pass Glagolitic Alley, a scenic route lined with monuments honoring the history of the Glagolitic alphabet. Your tour will begin on the pier and soon you will find yourself in the heart of this magnificent Old Town. This walking tour includes a visit to the Cathedral of St. Anastasia, the finest example of Romanesque architecture in Zadar and built in 1324. It is dedicated to St. Anastasia, whose stone sarcophagus is in the apse to the left of the high altar. Further on your way you will pass close to the Church of St. Donatus which is believed to have been built at the beginning of the 9th century. It is circular in plan, with three naves. You will visit the 16th century St Mary Church with a Romanesque bell-tower built at the beginning of the 12th century. On the upper floor of the convent, open to the public are rooms containing a collection of goldsmith's work, relics and other valuable items. Your tour will end with a Marascino Liqueur Tasting. Liqueur production in Zadar is almost 400 years old. This liqueur is a bittersweet, clear liqueur flavored with Marasca cherries, which are grown in Dalmatia, Croatia, mostly around the city of Zadar. Honey is also part of the ancient recipe. The recipe for this liqueur was created by the apothecaries of the Dominican monastery at Zara, now Zadar, in Dalmatia, at the beginning of the 16th century. Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking over cobbled and uneven surfaces, with 40 steps to reach the collection of goldsmiths' work inside the Church of St. Mary.
