The beautiful, sunny port city of Tarragona has lovely beaches, a spectacular cathedral, and Spain's second most important Roman ruins of Tarraco, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many other ruins around Tarragona as well including an amphitheater by the sea. Also known as the city of human towers, Tarragona originated this deep-rooted tradition that has been recognized by UNESCO on their Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The city lives and breathes this tower building spirit which requires the commitment and bravery of many people.

Tarragona: Walking Tour

You will board your motor coach for the short ride to beautiful Tarragona, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your walking tour will start at the Roman walls with the three old towers that still remain in Tarragona: Arquebisbem, Minerva and Cabiscol Towers. The walls were constructed with megalithic blocks of stone and used to be 2.5 miles long. Your tour will continue past the Cathedral, considered to be a rare example of a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic architecture since it was constructed between the 12th- 14th centuries. One of the highlights of this Cathedral is the main façade, which is still unfinished, and has an impressive rose-colored glass window. You will continue your walk past Gothic arcades, the market area during the Medieval Age and the Provincial Forum Walls dating from the Ist century A.D. You will see the Roman Amphitheatre dating from the 2nd century A.D. and was the place where Romans held their public shows. Before going back to ship, you will be driven along the Rambla Nova Boulevard and will admire the splendid view over the sea from the Mediterranean Balcony there. Please note: The Cathedral is not open to visitors. The history of the Cathedral will be given outside. Wear comfortable walking shoes. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.

This tour offers a quick visit to the most enjoyable locations in the island of Menorca, a small paradise on its own. You will have a chance to taste the products. You will visit the Museum of Menorca dating from 1889. The actual building is a Franciscan Convent from the 15th century with a beautiful courtyard. The museum gives an overview of Menorca's interesting history. Time permitting you will be offered the possibility of tasting another great local product - free of charge - the alcoholic drink known as Gin Xoriguer, the Mahon brewed, version of the "conventional" Gin. This is often tasted with lemonade in a cocktail known as "pomade" and is very commonly drunk by locals. The possibility of a guided walk around town will also be available upon arrival, or you can return to the ship comfortably in a coach. Mahon, Ancient Sites - A UNESCO Partner Tour

This tour will offer the opportunity to visit several archaeological sites of the Talayotic culture of Menorca, a candidate to be declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2021. In addition, Menorca has already been declared a Biosphere Reserve back in 1993 by UNESCO. The chosen archaeological sites are set in very well preserved rural and natural environments, currently managed as farms. The first visit will be in the prehistoric village of Cornia Nou, located near Mahón city. Different talayots - like towers - and temples were built on a little hill. You will have the opportunity to see several monuments ranging from the Bronze Age to the Romanization of the island. You will make a stop in a local cafeteria to have a snack. Then, visit the site of Rafal Rubí (Alaior), an emblematic bronze age funerary monument, unique of the island of Menorca. You will see the funerary chambers and the funerary rites will be explained by an archaeologist. Visit the taula temple enclosure of Trepucó (Mahón). Here you can see the talayot, like a big tower built with large cyclopean stones, and behind it, you will admire a large taula and a beautiful sanctuary surrounded by a 18th century defensive wall, made by the Spanish army when Saint Philips Castle was besieged by the Spanish troops in the year 1782, when the island was under British government. The prehistoric wall that is surrounding the village was remodeled and improved, following canons of the influence Carthaginian fortification. Also, a magnificent talayot - a big prehistoric tower - can be seen at this site which stands out as having one of the most spectacular taula sanctuary enclosures. Mahon, Sightseeing North, South & Mahon

Depart the pier for the approximately 20-minute drive through the fertile north countryside to the fishing village of Fornells a picturesque fishing village, set on a magnificent bay of the same name. An important harbor in days gone by for ships to take shelter from the strong north winds, today this village is now a pleasure ground for watersports which include windsurfing, kayaking and sailing. Fornells is also very well known locally for its fish restaurants and the King of Spain is among the many famous people who come here to eat the Menorcan Caldereta, a dish based on local lobster. Your tour will continue to the largest sandy beach on the island, Son Bou Beach which backs onto the open countryside and is relatively undisturbed in terms of modern development. However, there are still some hotels, holiday complexes, a few shops, bars, restaurants, and a discotheque nearby. Upon arrival, a brief photo stop will be made at this scenic locale. Return to Mahon where you will leave the coach at the main square and walk downhill back to the harbor through the center of town. The walk through this attractive town gives one a glimpse of the different phases in the island's turbulent history, and the many architectural styles reflecting the frequent changes of rule. The center offers an interesting mix of narrow streets lines with whitewashed houses, wide open squares and grand historical buildings. Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking and is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or guests who utilize a wheelchair. Palma is the capital of the Balearic Islands and lies on the southeastern coast of Mallorca Island. A wealth of architectural highlights awaits you. Board your coach and travel to your first stop at the circle-shaped 14th century Bellver Castle, one of the world's very few rounded castles and the only one of its type in Europe. Built in military-influenced Gothic style, it lies atop a hill affording expansive panoramic views over the city and surrounding countryside. Tangier, Tantalizing Tangier & Tetouan

Disembark the ship and depart by air-conditioned coach for a drive to St Andrew's Church. The Lord's Prayer is inscribed in Arabic around the chancel arch, which is built on land given to the government of the Queen of Great Britain - Queen Victoria - by the Sultan Moulay Hassan I in 1883. A century earlier Morocco had been the first country in the world to recognize the independence of the United States of America. Your guide will lead you into one of Tangier's most colorful and bustling areas, the Grand Socco (Souk). It is the center of things and the link between the medina and the new city. From here your guide will lead you to the American Legation Museum, which documents the history of the relationship between the United States and Morocco. Among several displays, there is a letter from George Washington to Moulay Abdellah. You will then drive to Tetouan, and upon arrival, enjoy a typical Moroccan lunch in a beautiful Riad in the Old Medina of Tetouan. After lunch you will tour the old Royal Palace, a 17th century building closed to public entry but its main ornate gate Bab Er-Rouah can give you a mental idea of what is beyond. Hassan II Square is situated where the historic and modern parts of the city converge to create the heart of the town. Join a guided walk through the Medina which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and visit Dar El Oddi Museum is a cultural museum located in the heart of Tetouan’s historic medina. Housed in a beautifully restored family mansion dating from the 1920s, it features the permanent exhibition “Visions of Tetouan”, which explores the city’s history and urban development through paintings, engravings, photographs, postcards, maps, and stamps from the 16th to the 20th century. The museum offers visitors both an insight into Tetouan’s rich heritage and a chance to admire traditional Moroccan-Andalusian architecture. Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Moroccan cuisine is considered one of the most important cuisines in the world. The cuisine of the first inhabitants, the Berbers, still exists today in the staple dishes like tagine and couscous. The Arab invasion brought new spices, nuts and dried fruits, and the sweet and sour combinations that we see in dishes like tagine with dates and lamb. The Moors introduced olives, olive juice and citrus while the Jewish-Moors left behind their sophisticated preserving techniques that we see in the frequent use of preserved lemons, pickles, etc. The Ottoman Empire introduced barbecue (kebabs) to Moroccan cuisine. The French colony, although short-lived left behind a culture of cafes, pastries, and even wine. Over time, cooks in the kitchens of the five royal cities (Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes, Tangier and Rabat) have developed and perfected the dishes that blend each of these distinct tastes. Every Moroccan dish has its place in society and varies with the market, the season, and the region. Your first stop will be the Grand Socco, home to a cavalcade of color, charm, street musicians, a fish market, scenic handicrafts, and spices. You will then proceed to Blue Door Hotel Cooking Classroom, where you will be welcomed with Moroccan tea followed by a cooking lesson of a very traditional Moroccan dish, learn how to make the traditional Moroccan bread and take it to a local oven. Tangier, The Best of Chaouen

Tangier is a fascinating Moroccan city to visit. You will start your tour with the inside visit of the Old Kasbah in the medina. The Kasbah of Chefchaouen was built in the early 18th century by the legendary ruler Moulay Ismail. It is fairly simple without architectural surprises however it is surrounded by gardens on the interior and exterior. Cádiz is the most southern province of the Iberian Peninsula. It is extremely rich in natural beauty and some of the most important Natural Parks of Spain and Europe are found here including Sierra de Grazalema and los Alcornocales. Both are rich in flora and fauna, including species under threat of extinction. Many birds find their resting and feeding place here just after or before making the jump from or to Africa.

Cadiz, White Villages & Countryside

You will start with a panoramic drive of the city of Cádiz where the guide will point out the most important monuments and attractions of the city. You will then proceed to the beautiful village of Vejer de la Frontera. Vejer is one of the most picturesque spots in the south of Spain. It was declared Historic and Artistic Collection in 1976. Its walled enclosure features four gates (The arches of La Segur, Sancho IV, La Villa and Puerta Cerrada) and two towers (Mayorazgo and La Corredera or Castrillone). Outside the primitive walled enclosure lies the Plaza de España, built in the 16th century, which initially held the bullfighting events organized by the nobles and knights of Vejer. For religious architecture, have a look at the Church of the Divine Saviour, constructed on the remains of a previous mosque, whose minaret is yet preserved. The styles go from the Mudejar and Gothic of the headboard, to Renaissance and Barroque. Some free time will be given to check the souvenirs shops or sit in any bar or cafe. Boarding the bus again, you will take the scenic "Atlantic Route," with its stunning countryside, passing by the Natural Park La Breña, a protected pine tree forest with cliffs of up to 328 feet (100 meters). From the bus you will see Trafalgar Cape with its lighthouse, that marks the place where the Trafalgar Battle took place in 1805, when the France-Spaniard troops fought against the English. Cadiz, Seville on Your Own

The tour to Seville will help you discover one of the most beautiful cities in Spain on your own. Seville has the third largest cathedral of Christianhood, the Reales Alcazares de Sevilla. Seville's cathedral occupies the site of a great mosque in the late 12th century. Later, Christian architects added the extra dimension of height. Its central nave rises to an awesome 138 feet (42 meters) and even the side chapels seem tall enough to contain an ordinary church. The total area covers 124,000 square feet (11,520 square meters) and it is the largest church in the world. See the the Capilla Mayor, dominated by a vast Gothic retablo comprised of 45 carved scenes from the life of Christ. Also, take a walking visit around the Santa Cruz Quarter, the old Jewish area of the city. This is the first barrio (area or neighborhood) tourists head for, and with good reason. It is the most picturesque and delightful part of the city, with narrow winding cobbled streets and whitewashed houses, where you can sit outside a bar, enjoy some tapas and watch the world go by, or wander through centuries-old gardens and relax on beautiful tiled benches. The area is bordered by Calles Mateas Gago, Santa Maria La Blanca/San José, the Jardines de Murillo and the Alcázar. The covered passageway heading off the Patio de Banderas (part of the Alcázar) called the Judería is worth visiting; enter the Patio from here and you'll get an unforgettable view of the cathedral. Discover the secrets of the famous sherry land of the province of Cádiz, which produces the world renowned Jerez wine. Your tour will start with a drive to Jerez de la Frontera , a town only 30 miles from the sea and the city of Cádiz. Cadiz, Evening Flamenco Show with Dinner

This tour will depart from the port of Cádiz for a visit to the historical center of town and its bay. Your guide will point out the important monuments and landmarks along the way. Cadiz, A Day in Seville

This panoramic introduction to La Palma is ideal for those who prefer to tour at a more relaxed pace. Embark on a scenic panoramic drive to the west of the island and through the upper region of the Aridane Valley . The area is the highest point of the island and is also home to the charming town of El Paso . Enjoy a little free time to take some photos and admire the town's beautiful surroundings. You'll leave El Paso and take a short drive to the delightful La Glorieta Square. The square is the work of local artist, Luis Morera, who was once a pupil of César Manrique. Here, you can enjoy a photo stop and view the unique and colorful mosaic floor, reminiscent of Manrique's designs found in Lanzarote. Afterwards, you'll head to the southern tip of La Palma and on to Fuencaliente . There will be some time to relax during a refreshment stop at a local restaurant, before the return drive to the port. Santa Cruz de Palma, Volcanoes & Wine *

Drive through vineyards and lava streams passing pine trees and small villages towards the deep south - the area where the volcanoes take charge. Arriving at Fuencaliente, a famous wine-producing region, you will visit the San Antonio volcano. Here you may be able to walk over the crater border and stroll around the Visitor Centre. A visit will be made to a typical bodega, where you will have the opportunity to sample some of the local red and white wines. You may also wish to purchase the wines that you have sampled. A short drive will bring you to the pottery center of 'El Molino' in Mazo. Located in an old windmill, this pottery is unique to the Benahorita people, which is to this day lovingly reproduced. There is a gift shop for you to purchase those all-important souvenirs. Please note : The walk near the volcanoes is over rough, graveled ground and narrow, uneven paths with some inclines. Please follow your guide's instructions and do not venture near the edge of the walking trail, as there are no handrails or barriers. There are some steep inclines and steps at El Molino Pottery. First you'll head north to the agricultural valley of Hermigua , famous for its banana plantations. The Garajonay National Park covers the southern part of this municipality and one of its landmarks is the twin rocks " Roques de San Pedro ." You will see the subtropical thermopile forest of Laurisilva Woods before traveling on to the small, enchanting village of Agulo . Surrounded by a massive basalt wall almost 984 feet high, Agulo offers a breathtaking view of the nearby island of Tenerife. It's a short 15-minute drive to Centro Visitantes Juego de Bolas in Las Rosas a center where you will learn the history of how the island was formed. Your next destination will be Laguna Grande in the middle of the National Park Garajonay, where you will enjoy a guided walk.
