Messina, In the Steps of the Godfather

Leaving the pier by coach, you will begin with a brief drive through Messina for a 45-minute trip via the freeway and then motor along the coastal road bordered by villas, flowering gardens, and picturesque villages to reach Savoca. Its scenic beauty and historical-artistic heritage makes Savoca, one of the most attractive and unknown places of Taormina. In a private house in the village, "Bar Vitelli," houses a collection of local artisans' tools and photographs taken when Francis Ford Coppola shot scenes of "The Godfather II." After a typical refreshment begin a walking tour along the village's main street past two Churches of the 15th and 16th centuries, (Santa Lucia and San Michele) and to enjoy the view over the valley. Continue to Forza d'Agro, a 20-minute drive towards Taormina, a charming little village overlooking the Arab-Norman castle of Capo Sant'Alessio. In 1990, Al Pacino and Sophia Coppola arrived there to shoot scenes for the film, "The Godfather III." From the main square, a lane leads up to the circular steps, which ascend to the Gothic-Catalan portal in front of the Church of St. Agostino also known as "Triade". Before departing, see the Baroque Chiesa Madre. Please note: Due to the amount of walking this tour is not recommended for people with walking difficulties. Taormina perches on a terrace overlooking the sea and epitomizes the legendary beauty of Sicily. Start off your tour exploring the famous Nin Salt Works and Salt Museum. At the Nin Salt Works the salt is not produced by the machines nor by man. The salt is produced by the sun, sea and wind and is ecological, therapeutic, and biodynamic. On a small island in the middle of a shallow lagoon the small town of Nin can be found with its old center, connected to the mainland by two stone bridges. Nin has had an exciting past and today a lovely present. Zadar, Flavors & Sights of Zadar

Your tour will begin on the pier and soon you will find yourself in the heart of this magnificent Old Town. This walking tour includes a visit to the Cathedral of St. Anastasia, the finest example of Romanesque architecture in Zadar and built in 1324. It is dedicated to St. Anastasia, whose stone sarcophagus is in the apse to the left of the high altar. Further on your way you will pass close to the Church of St. Donatus which is believed to have been built at the beginning of the 9th century. It is circular in plan, with three naves. You will visit the 16th century St Mary Church with a Romanesque bell-tower built at the beginning of the 12th century. The recipe for this liqueur was created by the apothecaries of the Dominican monastery at Zara, now Zadar, in Dalmatia, at the beginning of the 16th century. Depart the pier for the scenic, 1-hour drive to the green oasis of Gorski Kotar . This pristine area represents the harmonious co-existence of man and nature. Gorski Kotar represents a delightful blend of pleasant forest shades and enchanting serenity. Upon arrival at Gorski Kotar, ascend the mountains en route to the Vrelo Cave. Take a guided walking tour inside the Vrelo Cave. Estimated to be more than 3 million years old, the approximately 1,000-foot-long (305-meters) Vrelo Cave offers visitors a sense of the Earth's primordial past. Dramatic artificial lighting has been thoughtfully installed to reveal the cavern's intricacies, and cast moody shadows on the ceilings and walls. A stream runs through the cave, whilst magnificent formations of stalactites and stalagmites add to the cave's eerie allure. Leaving the caves, re-board your coach and head to nearby Fuzine Town. This is an opportunity to explore the beautiful natural setting of the green and fertile Konalve Valley. You will board your motor coach for a scenic drive to the village of Ljuta where you will visit the Old Mill called Mlinica Dvori which is still in function today. Here you will be able to see a demonstration of flour production using traditional methods in a water power stone mill. Enjoy a welcome drink of home-made liqueurs or a soft drink and dried figs. Continue your trip toward Gruda Village where Antonia Ruskovic has kept the tradition of the ancient handcraft of silk production. Silk is one of the oldest textile fibers known to mankind. The silk thread produced here is mostly used for embroidering the beautiful national costume of the Konalve region. You will be able to share in this magnificent cultural endeavor as you produce a silk thread in the age-old, traditional manner. Listen to an explanation of the whole process, from cocoon boiling, to thread reeling, dyeing, plying, reeling, weaving, and embroidering. You will enjoy the hospitality of a host in the village for a welcome drink and cake. After this very unique experience you will continue your trip toward Dubrovnik for the guided walking tour of the Old Town. Dubrovnik, Old Town Highlights

Explore the beautiful city known as the 'Pearl of the Adriatic' on this walking tour. Take a walk along the Stradun, the glass-like main promenade that runs from the Pile to Ploce gates, following the line of the channel that once divided the town into two parts. Along the way, view some of the landmarks of Dubrovnik. See outside of the Franciscan Monastery with the Old Pharmacy, opened in 1317 and the third oldest in Europe, the Big Onofrio's Fountain that brought water to the town, the once mint and customs office that used to be located in the Sponza Palace, the Church of St Blaise - Dubrovnik's patron saint, the magnificent Rector's Palace and many other edifices created through centuries that made Dubrovnik the UNESCO site it is today. Upon walking along the main promenade continue toward the City Walls. The City Walls were completed in the 13th century. The ramparts are intact and encircle the old city with a circumference of more than a mile and a half. Ascending the stairway at Pile Gate, you will soon reach the top of the wall where your guide will lead you on a walking tour along the Walls. You will see the gorgeous Minceta Fortress, St. John`s Fortress and Bokar Fortress. Reaching the Stradun, you will come in the very center of the Old Town and will have an opportunity to explore the town on your own before returning back to the yacht. Situated on a tiny piece of land jutting into the sea and considered to be the most beautiful of Slovenia's coastal towns, Piran is full of medieval architecture, narrow streets, and compact houses.  A walk to the beautiful oval-shaped main square will greet you with a statue of Giuseppe Tartini, composer and virtuoso violinist, and the most famous man of Piran.  Around the square are attractions like Venetian House, and a delightful Gothic-Venetian structure, The Sergei Masera Maritime Museum and the Church of St. George with its gorgeous view over the city and the harbor from the bell tower. Take a tour to the nearby Skocjan Caves National Park, a UNESCO site. 

Piran, Skocjan Cave - UNESCO

Enjoy your day exploring the UNESCO site of Skocjan Caves , rich in importance for the region and powerful in their beauty. You will take a 45-minute drive to the caves where there will be time to use the restroom before entering the caves. The walk in the caves will take 2 hours, during which you will admire the beautiful Reka River and limestone formations. The Skocjan Caves are a unique natural phenomenon, the creation of the Reka River. The Reka River springs from below the Snežnik plateau and flows some 34 miles on the surface. After reaching the Karst, the limestone surface, the river not only deepens its riverbed through erosion, but also by means of corrosion - it dissolves the limestone. After the visit you will be take a short drive to an organic tourist farm and be treated to traditional homemade local and seasonal produce, dry cuts, organic juice and dessert. You will then have a 45-minute drive back to the pier. Please note: The visit of the cave involves 2 hours of walking over uneven surface, with spots of high altitude. Wear comfortable walking shoes and a jacket due to the temperature in the cave.

Piran, Lake Bled with Island

Lake Bled has attracted numerous visitors for centuries, with its immense natural beauty, hot springs and serene climate. Beautiful hotels, walking paths, tennis and golf courses, a casino, rowing regattas and nearby natural and cultural sites are only a few of the reasons that this has become a popular place for both tourists and locals. You will depart the pier for a scenic 2-hour drive towards Bled, where upon arrival you will board a boat for a cruise of the Lake and a visit to its famous island which is situated in the middle. Landing at the island, one of the sites you will visit is the "Wish Bell," certainly the most significant point of interest for visitors since the Middle Ages. The Bell hangs from the tower on top of the chapel roof. According to popular legend, a young widow who lived at Bled Castle mourned her husband who had been killed by brigands and gathered all her gold and silver and had a bell cast for the chapel on Bled Island. When the bell was being transported to the island, a terrible storm caused the boat to overturn, drowning the sailors and sinking the bell to the bottom of the lake. The young widow, now even more devastated, entered a convent. After her death, the Pope donated another bell for the Bled Church. Legend has it that those who ring the bell to honor her and make a wish will see their wish come true. From here you will continue to the lunch venue, where you will enjoy your meal with a nice view over the lake before having some free time to explore Lake Bled on your own. Piran, Slovenian Coast & Farmers Market

This tour is all about traditional ways of life, and giving something back to the community. Not only will you be mixing with the locals but you'll be helping them maintain their way of life. You will board your motor coach for the 15-minute drive to the lovely seafront town of Izola - an old fishing town on the Adriatic Coast. Your guide will take you on a 60-minute tour of the town before continuing on to head inland on a panoramic 30-minute drive to a small Istrian village. Your guide will take you on a walking tour and at the weekly market the farmers will be on hand to show you their traditional recipes and home-made products. At the market, you'll be given a booklet with 5 vouchers and you will have 45 minutes to exchange these vouchers with the vendors to taste their goods. Everything from fruit juice to wine, cakes to cookies are there for you to try. There's even some locally made ceramics, perfect to buy as a souvenir.
