In this enchanting city the past and present intersect in perfect harmony. But of course what you seek first in the heart of Rome is its breathtaking history.  A good place to begin is the Vatican, with its Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. The town of Amalfi lies at the mouth of a deep ravine surrounded by dramatic cliffs and coastal scenery. As part of the Amalfi Coast, it has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is an important tourist destination. Quaint and charming, Monopoli has many sites within easy walking distance.  Start at the colorful street market and head toward the cathedral, built in 1693 with a tower that is 197 feet high. Past the cathedral is part of the seafront and a promenade and the beautiful Church of Santa Maria della Zaffira and the impressive Charles V Castle, built in 1552. The town of Amalfi lies at the mouth of a deep ravine surrounded by dramatic cliffs and coastal scenery. As part of the Amalfi Coast, it has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is an important tourist destination. The whole region is famed for its lemons, which are about double the size of other lemons, and the production of the limoncello liqueur. An optional tour can take you to the UNESCO archaeological areas of Pompeii, Positano and Ravello.

Tropea & Pizzo Calabro

After leaving the port by bus, in about half an hour you reach Tropea, a town that already existed in Roman times and later developed under Norman and Aragonese rule. Here you will visit the beautiful Norman Cathedral dating back to the 11th–12th century, dedicated to Our Lady of Romania, the city’s patron saint, and stroll through the narrow streets of the historic center among numerous Norman buildings. The walk concludes with a stop at a panoramic viewpoint offering breathtaking views of the sea, the port, and the Church of Santa Maria dell’Isola, dramatically set on a cliff that rises like an island from the sea in front of the town, followed by free time for shopping and a typical lunch in a local restaurant. Cruise Along Salento Coast

Enjoy a beautiful three-hour excursion aboard the comfortable and well-equipped Hydra boat, departing from the port of Otranto and heading north along the Adriatic coast, where Salento’s spectacular shoreline reveals turquoise waters, lush vegetation, white cliffs, and hidden beaches. The first sight admired from the sea is Otranto, one of Puglia’s most popular destinations, home to about 5,600 inhabitants and shaped over the centuries by Greek-Messapic, Roman, Byzantine, and Aragonese influences, developing around its imposing castle and Norman cathedral; an important archbishop’s seat and vibrant tourist center, it gave its name to the Canale d’Otranto and Terra d’Otranto and, thanks to its historical significance, was recognized as a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site in 2010 and is a proud member of “I Borghi più Belli d’Italia.” Just outside Otranto lies the first stop, La Staffa, a quiet, unspoiled beach set among rocks near a deep inlet known as Il Canalone, followed by the Canale San Pietro and Grotta Monaca, named after the monk seals that once frequented these waters, whose inviting colors encourage a refreshing swim. Otranto A Door to the East, Walking Tour

Otranto was one of ancient Rome’s leading ports for trade with Asia Minor and Greece and, under Byzantine rule, became an important stronghold of the Eastern Empire in Italy before falling to the Normans in 1070; in 1480 the town was attacked and destroyed by the Turks, and during those tragic days 800 inhabitants were beheaded after refusing to renounce their faith. Your tour will begin on the pier and soon you will find yourself in the heart of this magnificent Old Town. This walking tour includes a visit to the Cathedral of St. Anastasia, the finest example of Romanesque architecture in Zadar and built in 1324. It is dedicated to St. Anastasia, whose stone sarcophagus is in the apse to the left of the high altar. Further on your way you will pass close to the Church of St. Donatus which is believed to have been built at the beginning of the 9th century. It is circular in plan, with three naves. You will visit the 16th century St Mary Church with a Romanesque bell-tower built at the beginning of the 12th century. On the upper floor of the convent, open to the public are rooms containing a collection of goldsmith's work, relics and other valuable items. Your tour will end with a Marascino Liqueur Tasting. Liqueur production in Zadar is almost 400 years old. This liqueur is a bittersweet, clear liqueur flavored with Marasca cherries, which are grown in Dalmatia, Croatia, mostly around the city of Zadar. Honey is also part of the ancient recipe. The recipe for this liqueur was created by the apothecaries of the Dominican monastery at Zara, now Zadar, in Dalmatia, at the beginning of the 16th century. Monopoli, Alberobello & Private Visit to a Trullo *

Alberobello-nothing less than a fairytale village-will bewitch you with its intriguing charm. This community is famous all over the world for its unique cone-shaped buildings with whitewashed walls and stone roofs, all built without mortar. The village of Alberobello was founded in the 16th century. The local peasants built circular houses on the land without using mortar simply by using the stones that they found on the soil or in caves. An early form of tax evasion so when inspection time rolled around, the peasants simply knocked down their houses. Alberobello is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known all over the world as the trulli capital. Korcula, Ston Oyster Farm & Ston Walls Hiking *

Ston was built in 1335 and amended in 1370 and is considered one of the best planned and best structured cities in Europe. The walls of Stone were a massive architecture and construction feat. Originally 7,000-meters long (22,965 ft.), they consist of several parts; the Stone city walls, the Mali Ston city walls and the Big Wall with its 3 forts. Its forts and towers are strengthened by 10 round and 31 square flanking towers and 6 semi-circular bastions. It took almost 4 centuries to finish these complex defense walls, as the builders had to adapt to the rough terrain and advancements in warfare technology. The walls were last used for defense in the 19th century, and today they are a priceless monument of immense architectural and cultural value. Climbing the Walls will start in Ston. On route you will be walking a distance of almost 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) over demanding terrain with more than 400 steps before reaching Mali Ston. The town of Mali Ston is known as the "oysters' capital" of Croatia. Upon arrival in Mali Ston board a local boat which will take you to oyster and mussel beds. Your host will welcome you on board and introduce you to the oyster and mussel planting in this area. You will have the unique opportunity to get in touch with oyster and mussel production as well as to taste freshly prepared oysters and mussels. Upon your return to Mali Ston you will board a motor coach for the return ride back Orebic and further on a boat to Korcula. Crossing the channel by motorboat you will reach the well-known seaside resort of "Orebic" where this excursion will start. Pelješac Peninsula is producing probably the best wines in Croatia. The best known are the red wines Dingac and Postup both of which you will be able to taste in the three cellars you will visit. Leaving the town of Orebic by modern air-conditioned motor coach your first visit will be to the famous cellar of Mike Grgich, one of the most well-known wine cellars of this region. The Grgich Winery is in Trstenik, housed in a plain stone building that was once a military station, then later a resort. It is surrounded by a wooded area that overlooks the rocky coast of the Adriatic. It is situated on a hill above the eternal green Mirna River, from which it overlooks hundreds of small stone town villages that for centuries have been connected to old Buzet. This is the magic territory of Istrian truffles, the buried treasures and culinary king of white and black pearls. Aura production includes interesting delicacies ranging from jams made of nettle, mint, dandelion, sage, elder, fig, plum or cornel besides brandies aging for 3 years, then 6 months in maceration, then settling and being distilled for the next 2.5 years up to 6 times in order to naturally get rid of the sediment. Beside the traditional Biska, Medica and Teranino, they produce brandies made of sage, mint, cornel, carob, olives and almond, wild pear, wild apple, rose petals, hip, forest fruit, Travarica and Biska extra; the latter is not to be omitted since they are the only ones to produce it on the market; it is produced from white mistletoe picked exclusively from the apple tree. Depart the pier for the scenic, 1-hour drive over Ucka Mountain en route to the Istra Peninsula, and a visit to Roc Village. An important cultural monument, Roc features well-preserved medieval town walls with two entrances, a Roman lapidarium, Venetian bombarda cannon, and functional watchtower. Churches abound here, and include the 11th century Romanesque Church of St. Anthony , small St. Roch Church with several notable, 14th century frescoes representing St. Paul and the Apostles, as well as the St. Bartholomew Parish Church, which dates from the 14th century and features a prominent, 85-foot-high (26-meters) steeple erected in 1676. Numerous other smaller artifacts are preserved in the ancient buildings. Following a short walking tour of Roc Village, view a fresco presentation at a local artist's workshop, then re-board your coach and head to the town of Hum . En route, pass by the Glagolitic Alley, a scenic route of 10 monuments from the history of the Glagolitic alphabet. Located in the central part of Istria on a 1,145-foot-high (349 meters) hill overlooking the Mirna Valley, Hum Town has retained all the features of medieval urban architecture and organization. With a population of just 21 people, Hum is often called the smallest town in the world. On its western side, Hum is enclosed by town walls; on the remaining sides, houses are built into the defensive walls. Take a guided walking tour. See the bell and watch tower, built in 1552 as part of the town's defenses. The present Church of St. Jerome with its classical facade was built in 1802 on the side of an earlier church. The 'Glagolitic Wall Writings' are preserved in the church. Written in the formative Glagolitic period (the 2nd half of the 12th century), they are one of the oldest examples of Croatian Glagolitic literary culture in the Middle Ages. Begin your tour with a 75-minute scenic drive toward the town of Krk , where you will have a walking tour of this historic town. One of the oldest Croatian cathedrals , which consists of two different churches, one on a top of another, will be one of the highlights of the town walk. Learn about Roman, Venetian, and medieval Croatian noble families heritage, before the tour continues to Vrbnik , undoubtedly one of the most famous Croatian villages. As with the other castles on the island, Vrbnik too is, situated high up, at almost 164 feet (50 meters) on a cliff that literally dives into the sea. Today the most important product of Vrbnik's fields and of Vrbnik in general, is its golden yellow wine - the Žlahtina; which has become famous even in wider Croatian circles. Opatija, Vrelo Cave & Lakeside Fuzine *

Depart the pier for the scenic, 1-hour drive to the green oasis of Gorski Kotar . This pristine area represents the harmonious co-existence of man and nature. Gorski Kotar represents a delightful blend of pleasant forest shades and enchanting serenity. Upon arrival at Gorski Kotar, ascend the mountains en route to the Vrelo Cave. Take a guided walking tour inside the Vrelo Cave. Estimated to be more than 3 million years old, the approximately 1,000-foot-long (305-meters) Vrelo Cave offers visitors a sense of the Earth's primordial past. Dramatic artificial lighting has been thoughtfully installed to reveal the cavern's intricacies, and cast moody shadows on the ceilings and walls. A stream runs through the cave, whilst magnificent formations of stalactites and stalagmites add to the cave's eerie allure. Leaving the caves, re-board your coach and head to nearby Fuzine Town. This picturesque town is located on Bajer Lake at an altitude of 2,395 feet (about 730 metres) above sea level, approximately 22 miles (about 35 kilometers) from Opatija and near the Adriatic coast. Fuzine has rapidly developed due to wood exploitation, mining and trade. Today, it is a renowned tourist resort due to the beauty of the town, as well as the surrounding man-made lakes of Bajer and Lepovica. Board a boat for a panoramic ride along the lake . Afterward, take a guided walking tour of the village and stop by a local tavern for a tasting of typical Gorski Kotar delicacies. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and drive back to the pier. Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking at times over uneven, gravel, slippery, and cobblestone surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and embark/disembark the boat, and 15 steps at the sites visited. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who use a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with long sleeves and flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection. A jacket is also recommended because of the lower temperatures in the Vrelo Cave. Guests must be at least 8 years old to participate on this tour and 21 to have alcoholic beverages. Opatija, Kamacnik Canyon Hike *

Aboard your motor coach, enjoy the scenic 75-minute journey to Gorski Kotar in the Vrbovsko area , where your hiking adventure reveals the picturesque world of Kamacnik Canyon . Situated at the entrance to the canyon is an old sawmill, today a restaurant, that tells a special story about the region's past and complements the bucolic scene. From this starting point,you will trek the approximately 2-mile trail leading to the Kamacnik spring. Along the way, you will be surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature, at points walking next to the creek and crossing wooden bridges, at times more challenging, the trail will curve its way across small rapids or span over the water's edge with a sturdy, trestle-like construction. The path makes its way to a verdant valley, a truly lovely scene. At the end of the hike you will enjoy a tasty meal of venison ham, deer sausage, smoked cheese, homemade bread and blueberry strudel in a charming bistro before heading back to Opatija. Opatija, Experience Istria *

Departing Opatija,you will enjoy the 1-hour scenic ride over Ucka Mountain to Istria Peninsula and the town of Buzet . Known as the City of Truffles, Buzet is the crown of Istria. It is situated on a hill above the eternal green Mirna River, which overlooks hundreds of small stone town villages that for centuries have been connected to old Buzet. This is the magic territory of Istrian truffles , the buried treasures and culinary king of white and black pearls. The Buzet area is also the place for great olive oil, exquisite wines and distinctive Istrian grappa which, served with traditional Istrian culinary recipes, fully evokes the spirit of this ancient region. Upon arrival in Buzet you will take an uphill guided walk and exploration and have some free time before proceeding to Aura Tasting House. The company 'Aura' produces exclusive traditional products such as brandies, jams and other products made of wild herbs and wild fruits picked in an ecologically clean environment on the slopes of the Cicarija Mountain. Opatija, Sights of Rijeka & Trsat View Point *

Depart the pier for the scenic, 30-minute drive to Trsat , the oldest part of Rijeka Town. Begin your guided walking tour. Along the way, visit the Gradina Fortress and Trsat Castle , which dates from prehistoric times when it was just a watchtower. Nearby is the Franciscan Monastery and Shrine of Our Lady of Trsat, one of the oldest in Croatia. For 7 centuries, this shrine has been frequented by numerous pilgrims from all around the world. The shrine and Franciscan Monastery are also connected with Rijeka's city center by a total of 561 steps made in the 16th century. Next, re-board your coach and return to Rijeka's city center for a guided walking tour. Your first stop is at the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral , one of the most important meeting places of culture in Rijeka City for the last 4 decades. The building itself is a monument, as it formerly served as the Governor's Palace. After the museum visit, your guided stroll will continue downhill to the main Korzo Promenade. Walk across the promenade and view the Cathedral, City Tower, Old Town with its narrow streets, marketplace, and various other sites in the city center. Following your guided walking tour, some free time is made available to explore your surrounds at your leisure. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and drive back to the pier.
