With 3,000 years of history, you can't turn around in Athens without encountering the past. The Acropolis, a UNESCO site, the Plaka, and the Acropolis Museum are must-sees. But leave time if you can to climb Pnyx Hill for photos of the Parthenon at sunset, to buy your own set of Greek komboloi (worry beads), and to explore the metro stations that serve as mini-museums for the relics that are constantly being unearthed.

Istanbul: Byzantine Hippodrome, St. Sophia, Grand Bazaar & Airport Transfer

A scenic drive will take you across the Galata Bridge into the heart of Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey and the capital of the Ottoman Empire. The historic area of Istanbul was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. You'll visit the Byzantine Hippodrome, once the heart of Constantinople's political and sporting life, and monuments on the site include the Snake Column from Delphi and an Egyptian Obelisk taken from the Temple of Karnak at Luxor. You will have chance to view the Blue Mosque before head to your next destination. This incredible monument was completed in 1616 and is a triumph of harmony, proportion and elegance. Visit one of the greatest buildings in the world: St Sophia Mosque, built during the reign of Emperor Justinian (AD 537) and remained the greatest church in Christendom until the conquest of Constantinople in 1453. Last, you will visit the world famous Grand Bazaar. You may also enjoy a demonstration on the art of carpet weaving. At approximately 1:00 p.m., you will be dropped off at the New Istanbul Airport. Please Note: This tour will end at the New Istanbul airport. This tour is available only to guests whose flight leaves at 3:00 p.m. or later. Modest attire is required; when visiting the St. Sophia Mosque, knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered and women must cover their heads with a scarf. Visit to St. Sophia Mosque will take place to the upper gallery floor and access via ramp and few steps. Guide's commentary will be limited inside the mosque regarding to official rules and headsets devices will be used during the visit. As guests make their way back to the exit, they will encounter 30 steps before reaching the ramp, followed by a few steps and cobblestone road just before exit. The mosque is not wheelchair accessible. The covered section of the Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays; shopping will take place in stores just outside the Grand Bazaar. All tours in the Old Town require considerable walking, as it is closed to traffic. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Istanbul: Highlights of Istanbul & Hotel Transfer

A scenic drive will take you across the Galata Bridge into the heart of Istanbul, where the historic area of Istanbul was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. Visit the Byzantine Hippodrome, which was one of the largest chariot race grounds of the Byzantine Empire. You will see the Egyptian Obelisk, Serpentine Column, and Constantine Column which are remaining from the original Hippodrome. You will have chance to view the Blue Mosque before heading to your next destination. After a short walk, you'll enter the awe-inspiring Topkapi Palace Museum, a huge walled complex that hugs the Bosphorus and is displaying an extraordinary collection of art, artifacts, and jewels, including the famed Topkapi Diamond. The windows promise breathtaking views of the Bosphorus, the Golden Horn and the Sea of Marmara. Next, you will visit one of the greatest buildings in the world: St Sophia Mosque, built during the reign of Emperor Justinian (AD 537) and remained the greatest church in Christendom until the conquest of Constantinople in 1453. A delightful lunch, featuring Turkish specialties and beverages, will be served in a local restaurant. You will taste delicious Turkish cuisine cooked in Ottoman and Turkish styles. Myrina, Highlights of Lemnos

This tour will commence with a drive to the East coast of Lemnos where the island's most important archaeological site of Poliochni lies. Here the Italian Archaeologists discovered back in 1930 seven different layers of civilization, one on the top of the other. Poliochni is considered one of the largest urban centers of the Early Bronze Age and the first city in Europe with a basic social and civic structure. The Neolithic town predates the Egyptian dynasties, the Minoan Kingdoms of Crete, and even the earliest level of Troy. Following your visit to Poliochni board your coach and head for Moudros, the second biggest town of the island and the first capital of Lemnos. There you will have some free time for a stroll along its seafront or to enjoy a coffee in one of the cafés. You will continue to the Allied Cemetery in Moudros. It is one of the two most important monuments the island has, of the Allied Expedition versus Gallipoli. Many victims of the 1st World War were buried here in clusters depending upon their nationality. From there you will return to Myrina and visit The Archaeological Museum of Lemnos, founded in 1961. In the museum you will see exhibits from excavations of the Italian Archaeological School in the ancient sites of Poliochni, Kavirio, Ifestia, and other spots all over the island. Also you will be acquainted with various historical periods of Lemnos (prehistoric, Age of Copper, Classical period). From the museum you will return to the port. Mykonos, Delos Discovery

Explore the tiny uninhabited island of Delos, one of the most important archaeological sites in all Greece. Start your journey with a 45-minute ferry ride to this richly historic site. Delos was the major center of the ancient Greek world and the mythical birthplace of the god Apollo and his twin sister Artemis. Your 2 1/2-hour guided stroll includes such attractions as the Sanctuary of Apollo with its three temples dating from the 6th and 5th centuries B.C. To the west of this sanctuary lies the Sacred Lake, where Apollo was reputedly born. Standing guard over the Sacred Lake are nine replicas of the famous marble lions, which were a gift from the people of Naxos in the 7th century B.C. Other attractions include the amphitheater and the nearby theater quarter where wealthy owners built opulent houses with grand colonnaded courtyards. The island's checkered history finally led to its destruction in 88 B.C. by Mithridates, the King of Pontus. Large-scale restoration work has continued for many years and in 1990 the island was declared a World's Cultural Heritage Site, protected by UNESCO. Santorini, The Ancient City of Akrotiri & Oia

You will be transferred from the ship by local tender boat to Athinios port, where you will join the waiting motor coach. From here you will proceed toward the southern part of the island where you will make a quick photo stop at the ruins of an old windmill that has a panoramic view. Santorini, Wineries of Santorini & Oia Village

You will be transferred from the ship by a local tender to Athinios where you will join the waiting motor coach. A short journey brings you to one of Santorini's foremost wineries where you will be able to sample some of the most famous wines of Santorini. Leaving Santo Winery you will travel to visit the unique, underground labyrinth Wine Museum of Santorini where you will navigate the history of wine and have the opportunity to try four of the best wines. Board your coach and travel to the most northern point of the island, Oia Village. This dramatic little village, has many of its dwellings nestled in niches hewn into the volcanic rock. As you traverse its narrow cobbled streets you will come across many tiny shops which offer an unusual collection of handmade works of ceramic art, paintings and semi-precious jewelry. Coffee shops perched on the edge of the cliffs offer spectacular views of Fira and the volcano. Finally, you will board your coach and go to Fira town where your tour will end after a short walk to the Metropolis Church. Once there, your guide directs you to the cliff road from where you may proceed to the cable car at your leisure or drive back to Athinios port to take the local boat back to ship. Please note: None of these destinations are wheelchair accessible.

Before there were fortune cookies there was the oracle of Delphi, dating back to 1400 B.C. The oracle gave cryptic guidance to the leaders of the day and was so highly respected that Delphi, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, became known as the center of the world. An optional tour lets you go exploring, from the Temple of Apollo to the Delphi Archaeological Museum, which contains some of the finest works of art in Greece. 

Itea, Monastery of Ossios Loukas

Departing from the quayside, your motor coach will proceed along a picturesque and twisting road on a 45-minute drive where you can enjoy the relaxing views of the typical Greek countryside. Standing impressively on the brow of a peaked hill facing south, the majestic Monastery of Ossios Loukas commands a spectacular view of the adjacent valley. In some ways surpassing the famous Byzantine Church at Daphne, the monastery forms one of the most impressive memorials to the artistic vitality of the empire, during the revival of prosperity under the Macedonian Dynasty (865 - 1059). The monastery bears the name of a local hermit, the Blessed Loukas (Ossios Loukas) of Stiri, who was famed for his austerity, the dignity of his life, his prophecies and the miraculous cures he performed. Departing the monastery your tour will return to the port via the town of Arachova, famous for its handmade woolen carpets. Here you will have some free time to browse the picturesque streets and shops. Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. The monastery is not wheelchair accessible.

Itea, Mythology of Delphi

In antiquity Delphi was one of the world's most important religious centers. The Sanctuary of Apollo attracted a host of pilgrims who came to consult the oracle. Even now an aura of mystery surrounds the ruins of Delphi,a UNESCO World Heritage Site, exposed on a rocky slope. For sheer grandeur of natural beauty combined with ancient ruins, there is probably no other spot on earth that rivals Delphi. Visit the ancient Sanctuary of Apollo, where the celebrated oracle Pythia dwelt. Her ambiguous prophecies were known and respected all over the ancient world. Visit the Temple of Apollo, the Sacred Way, the amphitheater, the best preserved stadium of Greece, and the Castalian spring, where in ancient days the pilgrims had to wash before they were allowed to consult the oracle. In the Delphi museum, see such treasures as the Omphalos, which marked the center of the world, and the magnificent bronze Charioteer, one of the finest pieces surviving from the 5th century BC. Please note: As this tour involves walking around the Archaeological Site and in Delphi, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

You'll want to be on deck today as we transit the narrow Corinth Canal with other private yachts and Greek mail steamers. It's a shortcut reserved for petite ships like ours, and as we cruise between the narrow limestone walls we are the envy of all the ancient Romans who once portaged their ships along this very route before there was a canal.  Transit through the Corinth Canal is subject to local conditions and may occasionally be impacted by closures due to natural causes or construction activity beyond Windstar’s control. Should a closure occur, the itinerary will be updated accordingly, and booked guests will be notified as soon as information becomes available.

With 3,000 years of history, you can't turn around in Athens without encountering the past. The Acropolis, a UNESCO site, the Plaka, and the Acropolis Museum are must-sees. But leave time if you can to climb Pnyx Hill for photos of the Parthenon at sunset, to buy your own set of Greek komboloi (worry beads), and to explore the metro stations that serve as mini-museums for the relics that are constantly being unearthed.
