As the principal port of Corsica, Bastia has vibrant historical neighborhoods with narrow streets and alleys between ancient shuttered buildings of the 18th century. One of the main squares is the Place du Marche, home of a morning market and the impressive 16th century Saint-Jean-Baptiste church. On the other side of the harbor sits the substantial citadel, the beautiful gardens of Jardin Romieu and the once very-elegant houses of the Terra Nova district.
Bastia, Bastia & Taste Of Corsica *

Bastia, Bastia & Taste Of Corsica *
Bastia was founded by the Genoese in 1380, when they were looking for a naturally sheltered port to replace the ancient Roman city of Mariana and Biguglia (which had been destroyed by the Corsicans in 1372). The Genoese needed a city and port which could ensure contact between their "homeland" and their "colony." Even if this small port was swept by terrible winds, it was protected by a rock, easily defensible, and upon which a dungeon (or bastiglia) was built- and hence the name of the town Bastua. You will be met by your tour guide for a walking visit of the old City and the citadel . During your city tour by foot you will enjoy a stop for a Corsican spuntinu and tasting of Corsican specialties. Please note : Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring euros.
Bastia Discovery & Wine Tasting
Bastia Discovery & Wine Tasting
The tour passes through Terra Vecchia, the city’s oldest district stretching from St. Nicolas Square to the Old Port. Along the way, visit the Cathedral of Ste. Marie and view the Governor’s Palace before continuing through narrow, unpaved streets lined with small chapels and Baroque oratories, including the Oratoire St. Roch and the richly decorated Oratoire de l’Immaculée Conception. The walk continues to the Church of St. Jean Baptiste, easily recognized by its twin bell towers. From here, proceed into the Citadel area, exploring Du Donjon Square and the former Governor’s Palace, now a museum, while walking along Napoleon Street and through the Terra Nova district. This elevated section of the city offers a clear sense of Bastia’s defensive history and commanding views over the surrounding area. The experience continues with a stop at a welcoming local venue that combines a boutique selling Corsican products with a restaurant specializing in Italian-Corsican cuisine. Here, enjoy a tasting of six house-produced wines from the family’s own winery, paired with a traditional Corsican “spuntinu,” a selection of local savory specialties. After the tasting, there is free time to browse the shop’s regional products or relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The tour concludes with a pleasant walk back to the pier, bringing together Bastia’s historic landmarks, traditional food and wine, and everyday local culture.

Even if this small port was swept by terrible winds, it was protected by a rock, easily defensible, and upon which a dungeon (or bastiglia) was built- and hence the name of the town Bastia. The numerous religious buildings dotted all over the island bear witness to the profound religious fervor of its inhabitants and their attachment to the Catholic faith. Despite this, the collective consciousness remains steeped in many pagan traditions, with relics of ancient beliefs. The mystical spirit of Corsica finds its true expression during the great Christian festivals, however the barrier between the natural and supernatural world is extremely permeable and Corsica is teeming with visionaries, faith healers, and mediums. This walking tour will take you to some purportedly haunted sites , and give you an overview of the superstitions and local legends which still hold sway. Please note : Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring Euros. You will have about 30 minutes to shop on your own.

With its golden ochre and terracotta buildings, designer shops, and chic cafés, Portofino represents the height of Italian artistry and sophistication. Portofino, San Fruttuoso & Camogli by Boat *
Here's a tempting opportunity to visit charming and remote Italian coastal fishing villages that are not easily accessible other than by boat. After a 20-minute cruise, your first stop will be in the little bay of San Fruttuoso Village , the ancient residence of the Doria family. Its splendid natural surroundings are enhanced by the architectural beauty of its church and 10th century abbey. The imposing cliffs encircling the inlet, a small beach and lush Mediterranean vegetation, combined with the almost unreal absence of vehicles, creates a truly unique and enjoyable ambiance. Pause to savor the enchanting views as your boat remains in the bay for 10 minutes. Heading further up the coast you will reach Camogli , a typical small fishing village that was formerly the site of bustling shipyards that helped build one of the world's greatest merchant fleets. Camogli's original medieval setting was centered around a local parish church constructed on an island that was once completely detached from the mainland. Today, it is connected to the mainland by a square surrounded by colorful buildings including one of the Italian coast's most beautiful Baroque churches. During your 1 1/2-hour stay, there will be time for a guided tour followed by free time. Back aboard your boat, enjoy the 45-minute return cruise to Portofino. Please note : Wear comfortable walking shoes and comfortable clothes. Don't forget sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses! This tour is a more unique visit to some of the more charming and remote fishing villages in the area and offers a cultural excursion difficult to do on your own. This tour will operate or not depending on sea conditions.
