Portovenere, Cinque Terre by Boat

Our private chartered boat will pick you up from the Portovenere pier and take you along the scenic terraces of Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to Vernazza. Along the way you will see the villages of Riomaggiore and Manarola, connected by the world famous Love Path, followed by Corniglia, high on a cliff. Vernazza is a tiny resort located at the mouth of a river and is naturally protected from the threat of the sea by a rocky promontory and has always been the only safe landing point in the Cinque Terre. You will have free time in Vernazza to see the noble and elegant village before reboarding your boat to cruise to Monterosso, a town distinctly divided into two parts - the old town and the new town, which are divided by a single tunnel. You will have free time to explore this village with the only extensive sand beach in the Cinque Terre. You will return to Portovenere by your chartered boat.

Discover this jewel! Portovenere, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an ancient 12th century town where its tall, colored houses still remain huddled around the port. The massive bulk of the castle dominates the town. It was built by Genoa in the 16th century. The castle is a noteworthy example of military architecture. The original structures were reinforced to defend it against the threats of Pisa and later from other enemies of the Republic. After the walking tour, a tasting of local specialties and chilled white wine will be served. Please note: There are approximately 50 irregular stone steps to reach the church, no hand rail and the steps can be slippery when wet. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Discover the timeless charm of Bonifacio on a captivating journey through a town rich in history, striking architecture, and breathtaking landscapes, beginning with a charming mini-train ride through the Bosco quarter, home to the historic St. Francis Convent and the mariners’ cemetery, where impressive mausoleums display a variety of architectural styles and, on clear days, offer views of Sardinia across the sea. The tour continues with a visit to St. Dominique Church, an outstanding example of Corsican Gothic architecture believed to have been built by the Templars in 1270, followed by a walking exploration of the town’s narrow, winding alleys lined with towering granite houses and a pass by the 14th-century St. Marie Majeure Church, a remarkable blend of Romanesque and Baroque styles. As you delve deeper into Bonifacio’s historic district, you will discover Place des Armes and the Jardins des Vestiges, revealing the town’s medieval past, stroll along Two Emperors Street where Napoleon Bonaparte and Charles V once stayed, and admire the Old Market dramatically set atop 230-foot limestone cliffs with spectacular coastal views. The route then leads through the Porte de Gênes, once the citadel’s only entrance, to the Chapel of St. Roch, built on the site where Bonifacio’s last plague victim died in 1528, and onward to St. Erasme Church, dedicated to mariners and fishermen, where the famous Hundred Steps descend to the picturesque marina. Bastia was founded by the Genoese in 1380, when they were looking for a naturally sheltered port to replace the ancient Roman city of Mariana and Biguglia (which had been destroyed by the Corsicans in 1372). They needed a city and port which could assure the contact between their "Homeland" and their "colony". Even if this small port was swept by terrible winds, it was protected by a rock, easily defensible, and upon which a fortress (or bastiglia) was built - and hence the name of the town Bastia. The numerous religious buildings dotted all over the island bear witness to the profound religious fervor of its inhabitants and their attachment to the Catholic faith. Despite this, the collective consciousness remains steeped in many pagan traditions, with relics of ancient beliefs. The mystical spirit of Corsica finds its true expression during the great Christian festivals, however the barrier between the natural and supernatural world is extremely permeable and Corsica is teeming with visionaries, faith healers, and mediums. Here's a tempting opportunity to visit charming and remote Italian coastal fishing villages that are not easily accessible other than by boat. After a 20-minute cruise, your first stop will be in the little bay of San Fruttuoso Village, the ancient residence of the Doria family. Its splendid natural surroundings are enhanced by the architectural beauty of its church and 10th century abbey. The imposing cliffs encircling the inlet, a small beach and lush Mediterranean vegetation, combined with the almost unreal absence of vehicles, creates a truly unique and enjoyable ambiance. Pause to savor the enchanting views as your boat remains in the bay for 10 minutes. Heading further up the coast you will reach Camogli, a typical small fishing village that was formerly the site of bustling shipyards that helped build one of the world's greatest merchant fleets. Camogli's original medieval setting was centered around a local parish church constructed on an island that was once completely detached from the mainland. Today, it is connected to the mainland by a square surrounded by colorful buildings including one of the Italian coast's most beautiful Baroque churches. Portofino, Concierge Collection: Cinque Terra by Boat Tour

Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is also a National Park and Protected Marine Area. Clinging to the Ligurian cliffs on the west coast of Italy are five castles at nearly the same distance from one another - Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Today you will see two of these sites as the ancient mariners had - from the sea. Depart from the pier heading to Cinque Terre, or five lands, and marvel as you approach the beautiful coast with villages suspended above the sea , almost defying gravity. Pass the scenic Tigullio Gulf and Poet's Gulf, with terraced vineyards alive with the aroma of olive trees blended with the fresh ocean breeze. Arrive at the village of Vernazza, where you will disembark the vessel and begin a guided walking tour of this 1st century village. Notice the richness of its architecture, which evinces a wealthier standard of living than that of other villages. Following your tour, you will have free time to browse the local shops or enjoy a cafe. Reboard your boat and proceed to the next stop, the most westerly village and Cinque Terre's beach town, Monterosso. The town is divided into two distinct parts, San Cristoforo Hill, and the old maritime village protected by a rock spur. Proud of its Ligurian culinary heritage, Rapallo draws on the rich bounty of both mountains and sea, and your food-focused exploration begins at one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks, the Musical Kiosk with its whimsical frescoes, before continuing to the vibrant food market to discover the produce and aromatic herbs essential to local recipes. The tour then passes an artisanal pasta workshop, where a local chef prepares traditional stuffed pansoti using market-fresh herbs and simple ingredients, followed by a walk through the historic center with visits to small local bottegas. Along the way, guests will enjoy tastings of two local specialties selected from focaccia al formaggio, pansoti, farinata, stuffed vegetables, or fried anchovies, depending on availability. Portofino, Hiking to Santa Margherita

Start your walk from the pier with your guide, viewing the elegant shops and boutiques that surround the charming piazzetta along the way. You will walk by the church to the hiking path. The itinerary of the hike can vary depending on your guide, on the weather and path conditions and on the fellow guests in your group. The first half of the tour is mostly an uphill walk if your tour goes towards Cappelletta, San Sebastiano and Olmi, to reach Molini. You will pass elegant villas nestled among rich tropical vegetation and olive trees. If your tour starts heading towards Paraggi, you will walk along the coastline and then hike up towards Acquaviva and Molini, where an old olive oil mill has been restored, now housing a little museum, a café, and toilets. The path leads the way through the Mediterranean flora, vineyards and olive groves. Vegetation hugs the medieval dwellings and the cliffs drop off to the crystal-clear sea, making this one of the most fascinating locations of the Riviera. Continue walking on to Santa Anna and Nozarego and finally you will arrive at the main promenade of Santa Margherita Ligure. Santa Margherita's colors, the arrangement of its characteristic houses, its rich villas and great hotels have painted around its bay something similar to a magical reflection. Pause for refreshment at a café and then you will return to Portofino by minivan, or you may choose to remain in Santa Margherita to stroll around on your own and go back to Portofino by taxi, public ferry or public bus.
