Barcelona Montserrat with Transfer to Windstar Hotel

Your tour departs from the port for the 1-hour drive to reach Montserrat, a peculiar rocky mountain range which is the site of the monastery where people come to worship "La Moreneta", the black Madonna who is the patron-virgin of Catalonia. The Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat was founded in the 11th century and is located in a natural park 37 miles west of Barcelona. Besides visiting the Benedictine Abbey Monastery, you will admire also the Patron of Catalonia, Saint Mary of Montserrat that is worshiped at the shrine in the Monastery. The Benedictine community, now numbering some 80 monks, has served the shrine for almost 1,000 years. They are dedicated to a life of prayer, to working and to welcoming pilgrims, making the site a place for dialogue, prayer and culture. In addition to the monks, the escolans also live in Montserrat. They form the oldest boys choir in Europe (and might be available during the visit). You will be given a tour of the monastery, and have some free time before taking the coach back to the Windstar hotel. Please note: Comfortable shoes, water, a light jacket and a hat are recommended. There are downhill and uneven paths, plus cobblestones to walk over. There may be long lines to view the Black Virgin up close. This excursion may operate in reverse. Access to the Basilica might be denied if mass is taking place. Shoulders and knees must be covered to enter monastery. This tour will end at your Windstar hotel and is available only to guests staying overnight in Barcelona.

Cartagena, Journey to Murcia

You are invited to enjoy a superb sightseeing tour in the charming province of Murcia. Departing from Cartagena by motor coach you will journey for one hour through the foothills of the Sierra de Carrascoy. Your destination is the capital of the province - Murcia. Settled by the Moors in the 9th century and conquered by the Christians in the 13th century, this bustling city offers a wonderful array of architectural delights. Your first stop will be the Monastery of the Virgin of Fuensanta (the Patroness of Murcia). Enjoy a panoramic view of the Murcian orchards, producers of the most fruits and vegetables in all of the Mediterranean. Then travel on for an external visit at the Murcia Cathedral, a medley of Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture. The old building of the Casino of Murcia is your next stop before heading back to your ship. Please note: There are 3 steps to get in the Casino and 3 more in each room inside with tiles on the floor. There is a ramp in the monastery and most of the walking is on flat surfaces. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

One of Cartagena's greatest treasures is its tasteful and colorful cuisine. It is an interesting mix of North Africa, Spanish, and French cultures. You will have a 2-hour drive via Cap Malabata and Tetouan toward Chefchaouen for some sightseeing. You will start your tour with the inside visit of the Old Kasbah in the medina. The Kasbah of Chefchaouen was built in the early 18th century by the legendary ruler Moulay Ismail. It is fairly simple without architectural surprises however it is surrounded by gardens on the interior and exterior. Inside the Kasbah, you can visit the ethnographic museum containing antique weapons, musical instruments, and photographs of the old town. You will explore the blue-washed town (old medina) by foot along with your guide who will share stories of Chefchaouen's history. You will have a photo stop to take pictures of a panoramic view of the Hispanic flavored town lined with blue and whitewashed houses, tiny balconies, tiled roofs and patios embellished with citrus trees. Visit the cobbled main square, Plaza Uta el- Hammam where you will have some free time for shopping and where the striking 15th century Grand Mosque sits. Your tour will start with a drive from Seville to Jerez de la Frontera, a town only 62 miles from the city of Seville. The landscape you will see changes from the dry coastal plain to the fertile land near Jerez. The milder climate makes it possible to cultivate the grapes that produce the three main varieties of sherry. You will visit a famous local wine cellar where the time-honored blending process that is responsible for the quality sherry wines will be explained during your guided tour.
