Malaga, Culture and Tapas in the Heart of Malaga

Málaga is located in the center of the Costa del Sol. Many ancient civilizations have left their marks. which you will discover in Málaga's rich exterior archaeological remains and fascinating monuments. You will admire the beautiful architecture of the Alcazaba Palace, a historic castle built in the 11th century to be the residence of the Arabian Caliphs or Kings. From the outside view Gibralfaro Castle, built in the 14th century, constructed by Yusuf I of Granada on an old Phoenician enclosure that also contained a light that gives name to the Gibralfaro hill (Jbel-Faro, or mounts of the light). During the bus ride you will also admire the ruins of the former Roman Theater of Malaga on the foot of the hill of the Fortress, Alcazaba, with a short walking tour accompanied by a guide for those who want to walk. After panoramic views proceed to the Cathedral and then enjoy tapas and beverages in a private area inside one of the best Tapas restaurants in Malaga.

Malaga & Picasso Walking Tour

Those of you who delight in ancient history and art lovers cannot miss this tour! With half a million inhabitants, Málaga is located in the center of the Costa del Sol. From the outside you will admire the beautiful architecture of the Alcazaba Fortress, a historic castle built in the 11th century to be the residence of the Arabian Caliphs or Kings. It is connected by a step path to Gibralfaro Castle, an ancient Moorish fortress with breathtaking views of the city and its bay. Buses will take you to the castle so you won't have to walk up the hill. The Museo Picasso Málaga is run by the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga and the Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso. The Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso is the rightful owner of the collection there, whereas the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga owns the group of buildings that holds it. As was initially agreed by the donors, the two foundations are responsible for the conservation, exhibition, study and diffusion of the collection. At the museum, you will be able to appreciate all Picasso styles and techniques (Painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramic and graphic works in an exhibition with 155 works ranging from 1890 up to 1973. Please note: This tour involves more than 2 hours of walking over uneven and cobblestone surfaces and steps are involved. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Malaga by Segway

Some things are just plain fun and riding a Segway around Spain definitely falls into that category. It takes a few minutes to get the hang of it; then you'll never want to get off! You'll begin your ride (after an introduction to the operation of the Segway) at Plaza de la Marina, in the center of Málaga. Continue to Larios Street, the main shopping avenue of the city, then on to Merced Square, at the end of Calle Alcazabilla, to see the obelisk erected as a tribute to General Torrijos, currently the headquarters of the Picasso Foundation. Next you will ride to the Santiago Church, built on the site of a former mosque and Málaga's oldest church (founded in 1490). You'll also visit the Roman Theatre, discovered in 1951, which was built in the time of Caesar Augustus and used until the 3rd century A.D. After that time, it was used as a quarry by the Moors to restore the Alcazaba, which is the next stop on your tour. This impressive building, constructed mainly in the 11th century, was the palace/fortress of the ruling Muslims. Continuing on your tour, you'll see the Catedral de la Encarnacion, Bishop Square, and the Paseo del Parque, before returning to Marina Square. Please note: This tour is not possible for people confined to wheelchairs. The minimum age to participate is 18 and participants must weigh between 66 and 265 pounds. Helmets will be provided. Participants must sign a waiver to go on this excursion.

Cadiz, White Villages & Countryside

You will start with a panoramic drive of the city of Cádiz where the guide will point out the most important monuments and attractions of the city. You will then proceed to the beautiful village of Vejer de la Frontera. Vejer is one of the most picturesque spots in the south of Spain. It was declared Historic and Artistic Collection in 1976. Its walled enclosure features four gates (The arches of La Segur, Sancho IV, La Villa and Puerta Cerrada) and two towers (Mayorazgo and La Corredera or Castrillone). Outside the primitive walled enclosure lies the Plaza de España, built in the 16th century, which initially held the bullfighting events organized by the nobles and knights of Vejer. For religious architecture, have a look at the Church of the Divine Saviour, constructed on the remains of a previous mosque, whose minaret is yet preserved. The styles go from the Mudejar and Gothic of the headboard, to Renaissance and Barroque. Some free time will be given to check the souvenirs shops or sit in any bar or cafe. Boarding the bus again, you will take the scenic "Atlantic Route," with its stunning countryside, passing by the Natural Park La Breña, a protected pine tree forest with cliffs of up to 328 feet (100 meters). From the bus you will see Trafalgar Cape with its lighthouse, that marks the place where the Trafalgar Battle took place in 1805, when the France-Spaniard troops fought against the English. Cadiz, Seville on Your Own

The tour to Seville will help you discover one of the most beautiful cities in Spain on your own. Seville has the third largest cathedral of Christianhood, the Reales Alcazares de Sevilla. Seville's cathedral occupies the site of a great mosque in the late 12th century. Later, Christian architects added the extra dimension of height. Its central nave rises to an awesome 138 feet (42 meters) and even the side chapels seem tall enough to contain an ordinary church. The total area covers 124,000 square feet (11,520 square meters) and it is the largest church in the world. See the the Capilla Mayor, dominated by a vast Gothic retablo comprised of 45 carved scenes from the life of Christ. Also, take a walking visit around the Santa Cruz Quarter, the old Jewish area of the city. This is the first barrio (area or neighborhood) tourists head for, and with good reason. It is the most picturesque and delightful part of the city, with narrow winding cobbled streets and whitewashed houses, where you can sit outside a bar, enjoy some tapas and watch the world go by, or wander through centuries-old gardens and relax on beautiful tiled benches. The area is bordered by Calles Mateas Gago, Santa Maria La Blanca/San José, the Jardines de Murillo and the Alcázar. The covered passageway heading off the Patio de Banderas (part of the Alcázar) called the Judería is worth visiting; enter the Patio from here and you'll get an unforgettable view of the cathedral. Cadiz, A Day in Seville

Tangier, The Best of Chaouen

Tangier is a fascinating Moroccan city to visit. It has many of the things that travelers love - a sense of exotic mystery, interesting history, beautiful vistas, unspoiled beaches, and friendly people. It is an interesting mix of North Africa, Spanish, and French cultures. You will have a 2-hour drive via Cap Malabata and Tetouan toward Chefchaouen for some sightseeing. You will start your tour with the inside visit of the Old Kasbah in the medina. The Kasbah of Chefchaouen was built in the early 18th century by the legendary ruler Moulay Ismail. It is fairly simple without architectural surprises however it is surrounded by gardens on the interior and exterior. Inside the Kasbah, you can visit the ethnographic museum containing antique weapons, musical instruments, and photographs of the old town. You will explore the blue-washed town (old medina) by foot along with your guide who will share stories of Chefchaouen's history. You will have a photo stop to take pictures of a panoramic view of the Hispanic flavored town lined with blue and whitewashed houses, tiny balconies, tiled roofs and patios embellished with citrus trees. Visit the cobbled main square, Plaza Uta el- Hammam where you will have some free time for shopping and where the striking 15th century Grand Mosque sits. The Mosque and its nearby buildings were built by Jewish refugees, who alongside Muslims escaped the Spanish persecution to Chefchaouen. The Moors introduced olives, olive juice and citrus while the Jewish-Moors left behind their sophisticated preserving techniques that we see in the frequent use of preserved lemons, pickles, etc. The Ottoman Empire introduced barbecue (kebabs) to Moroccan cuisine. The French colony, although short-lived left behind a culture of cafes, pastries, and even wine. Over time, cooks in the kitchens of the five royal cities (Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes, Tangier and Rabat) have developed and perfected the dishes that blend each of these distinct tastes. Every Moroccan dish has its place in society and varies with the market, the season, and the region. Tangier, Tetouan UNESCO World Heritage *

Funchal, City Highlights and Cable Car *

Explore the adventurous city of Funchal, capital of Madeira and Portugal's largest town. You will board your motor coach for the short 10-minute drive to the center of town. Walk through the vibrant local market, explore the Old Town where the first settlement of the city was born. This old part of the city is characterized by its narrow sidewalk streets and façades of old houses and is considered a historical area of great architectural and patrimonial value. You will climb to Monte by cable car. This village located at an elevation of 1,772 feet high was the last residence of Carlos I of Austria, who is buried in the Church of Our Lady of Monte. Finally you will have a 25-minute drive to visit the Old Blandy Wine Lodge in the center of Funchal which acts as an excellent show place for many the finest wines of Madeira. You will taste four 5-years-old wines accompanied by some delicious snacks. Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Guests must be legal age to consume alcohol. The market and the Old Blandy Lodge are closed Saturday afternoons, Sundays and public holidays all day. A visit to the church of Monte is not included and is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Should guests wish to visit it, it is free of charge and they have to be able to climb 171 steps up and 68 steps down. Tour order may vary but all sites will be covered. Santa Cruz de Palma, Volcanoes & Wine *

Drive through vineyards and lava streams passing pine trees and small villages towards the deep south - the area where the volcanoes take charge. Arriving at Fuencaliente, a famous wine-producing region, you will visit the San Antonio volcano. Here you may be able to walk over the crater border and stroll around the Visitor Centre. A visit will be made to a typical bodega, where you will have the opportunity to sample some of the local red and white wines. You may also wish to purchase the wines that you have sampled. A short drive will bring you to the pottery center of 'El Molino' in Mazo. Located in an old windmill, this pottery is unique to the Benahorita people, which is to this day lovingly reproduced. There is a gift shop for you to purchase those all-important souvenirs. Please note : The walk near the volcanoes is over rough, graveled ground and narrow, uneven paths with some inclines. Please follow your guide's instructions and do not venture near the edge of the walking trail, as there are no handrails or barriers. There are some steep inclines and steps at El Molino Pottery. You will see the subtropical thermopile forest of Laurisilva Woods before traveling on to the small, enchanting village of Agulo . Surrounded by a massive basalt wall almost 984 feet high, Agulo offers a breathtaking view of the nearby island of Tenerife. It's a short 15-minute drive to Centro Visitantes Juego de Bolas in Las Rosas a center where you will learn the history of how the island was formed. Your next destination will be Laguna Grande in the middle of the National Park Garajonay, where you will enjoy a guided walk.
